Since 21st century,it has always been a concern about the status of the physical bookstores,and various media have reported the survival difficulties of physical bookstores and the disappearance of paper reading.Because of the influence of electronic book industry,the backwardness of business model of traditional physical bookstore,the squeezing of estate economy,the increasing of human costs,physical bookstores have no choice but to transform.In recent years,a kind of novel bookstore,focusing on thematic feature and composite formats,increasingly develops against the current.These bookstores,by creating a unique theme,characteristic business environment and comfortable social and entertainment venues,bring the pleasant experience to customers which cannot be replaced by online bookstore.The success of these bookstores has pointed out a new direction to physical bookstores,namely,to combine experience economy together with experiential consumption and build a platform at the core of consumer demand.However,the transformation of physical bookstores is still toddling and lack of systematic guidelines,which have led to some failing attempts.Some bookstores only simply carry out the combination of multiple formats without considering the adaptation of formats,the corresponding changes in spatial organization and the impact of node design.Therefore,this paper,through arranging the successful cases of bookstore transformation,hopes to summarize and analyze the design content of theme orientation and pattern configuration,spatial combination and streamline design,and node shaping and brand image,with a view to provide pieces of helpful suggestions for the transformation of current bookstores,as well as making a reasonable prediction for their future development trend.The first chapter presents the background information that includes the concept of experience economy and its guiding significance to the transformation of physical bookstores,introduces the significance of this study,clarifies the research object,concludes the status of abroad and domestic researches,and finally briefly describes the research methods and framework;in the second chapter,it traces the historical evolution of physical bookstores,discusses the trend of the transformation design and summarizes basic principles;the major part of this thesis is from chapter three to chapter five,which involves examples of transformation at home and abroad.The third chapter analyzes theme orientation and pattern configuration from the perspective of theme choice,consumer orientation,format type,format combination and function ratio of physical bookstores;the fourth chapter discusses the spatial structure of physical bookstores,exploring the spatial organization from the aspects of space combination strategy and dynamic design method;the fifth chapter,from space node and brand image,makes a summary of practices and strategies of image shaping and expression in the design of physical bookstores;the sixth chapter lists three successful cases of bookstore transformation with different sizes,different themes and different formats,and combines with the previous theoretical methods to explore the possibility of practice.The last chapter is the conclusion and prospect,which makes a conclusion of the transformation of physical bookstores,points out the existing shortcomings,predicts the future development trend of physical bookstores,and gives an end to the whole study.
