Large Public Buildings Design Research In The Context Of Small Block

Currently,There are some larger blocks in our country,they caused a series of urban road problems,such as the low urban road efficiency,weak block vitality.Therefore,the small-scale blocks and dense network model development will effectively optimize the urban structure,increase the traffic efficiency and enhance the block vitality.However,the problems and the challenges of the small blocks is to deal with the relevant contradiction to the large-scale public buildings,which is to meet the requirements of the urban intensive and sustainable development.Arranging the complicated functions and the large-scaled public building to the small-scale blocks is the new design issues,which based on the “narrow road and dense network”,it is the harmonization of contradictions between the “small-scale” and ”large-scale”,and also is the method to remit the particular urban problems.In this thesis,the author will according to three small-scale blocks design of architect Arthur Erickson(Canada Architect)which namely Robson Square Complex and based on four viewpoints which are function and space organizations;Building streamline design;creation of urban public space and street interface space design to discuss the design methods of Robson Square Complex.And this thesis is try to based on the small-scale blocks to provide the large public buildings design ideas under the dense restrictive Chinese urban environmental conditions,furthermore,providing the effective reference to enhance the urban space improvement.The thesis consist of eight parts.The part one is to introduce the background of the large-scale public buildings design under the small-scale blocks,and define the relevant concepts.The part two is to propose the large-scale public buildings design problems under the small-scale blocks,which based on four viewpoints: the relationship between small-scale blocks and complicated functions,large-scaled space;flows in the architecture under the small-scale blocks;the creation of the urban communication space under the small-scale blocks;street interface space design under the small-scale blocks.The part three to part six is to propose the relevant solutions based on the previous proposed problems which according to the three small-scale blocks design of architect Arthur Erickson(Canada Architect)which namely Robson Square Complex.The part seven is to investigate and analysis the suitable large-scale public building design point under the small-scale blocks model.The last part is to summarize the research of the thesis,and propose the further research issues of the thesis.
