With the rapid development of economy and people's living standards, the pace of urbanization of china accelerates. As a result, the number of motor vehicles is growing fast, and the parking problem is more and more serious. Especially in the urban central business district, where traffic and crowds gather, the parking problem has influenced the district's sustainable development. Therefore, it's necessary and vital for us to study the parking problem in the urban central business district. The main content of this paper are as follows:(1)Basic concepts, influencing factors, and computing methods of parking demand and parking supply are introduced respectively. Particularly, urban road network capacity is considered to determine the parking supply of urban central business district.(2)The comprehensive evaluation index system of parking lots is established to evaluate the performance of parking lots for their operation efficiency and service level. Then, based on the multi-stage fuzzy comprehensive evaluation and analytic hierarchy process methods, a comprehensive evaluation model is developed to evaluate the operation efficiency, service level and comprehensive level of parking lots.(3)Parking demand and supply of Xujiahui CBD in Shanghai, China are investigated and analyzed. Moreover, 18 parking lots in Xujiahui central business district are evaluated in the developed evaluation model, assisting to understand the current situation of parking lots. Lastly, some advices are provided to improve the parking problem in Xujiahui CBD.The results of this paper will be helpful to understand the current parking situation in urban central business district, to improve the parking problem, and to provide theoretical basis and practical experience of the planning, evaluation and management of parking lots.
