| After Chinese economic reform, Chinese urban constructions have made remarkable achievements. However, for each city in the economic construction of the proposed requirementsl. Some cities have started the transformation of the urban commercial space to solve the problem of the cultural breaks in urban constrictions. This original intention is recognized, but the operation process either copy the exists public art projects from foreign or "political projects" which are ignoring the problem of local cultural context. As an important carrier of the urban cultural context, the commercial space has been integrated into the daily life of the public and play as the business card of the local city,which highlighting the city’s context and characteristics.The aim of this study is to develop a new design framework through the theory analysis. To achieve the research aim set out above, there are seven key milestones will be finished step by step. Firstly, to analysis the design process in commercial space in cultural context; Secondly, to review the design process by literature review of culturally related theories; Thirdly, to test the research theories by practices in really design project. Fourthly,to profound reflection of the relationship problems between culture context and commercial space. Finally, to discuss how to inject the "old" culture context into the "new" design and get the conclusion. This paper is divided into the following chapters.Chapter 1. Introduction. This chapter aims to analyzes the background, significance of the study, and build research framework and methodology by literature review.Chapter 2. The relationship between cultural continuity and environmental art design.This chapter focus on demonstrate the crisis of urban culture extension, determine the function of culture on environmental art design and look forward the trend of the development of environmental art in the future.Chapter 3. The functional properties and environmental characteristics of commercial space. This chapter focus on expounds the basic properties and characteristics of the commercial space.Chapter 4. The design outline and methods of cultural continuity in environmental art design. This chapter aims to produce a new method of design in commercial space which based on literature review.Chapter 5. Practice study: a conceptual scheme of environmental art design in Collection Trading Center in Xiamen Strait. This chapter aims to expound the application of the related theory in the design process which based on a real design project.Chapter 6. Conclusion. This chapter aims to summarize the research results, reality significance, study limitation and points out the trends of cultural continuity on environmental art design in future. |
