The differences between Farnsworth House and Moller House seems to be very extreme in every respects. But this is not a meaningless contrast. It is based on some common traits controlled by “Homogeneous Space” and“Volume Planning”,the operate systems for houses of Mies van der Rohe and Adolf Loos. This paper aims to interpret “Homogeneous Space” and “Volume Planning”,witch are the complete processes of architectural exploration and not just some kinds of descriptive words. This paper focuses on the two houses just mentioned. The content of Chapter 1 is analysing the formation background and logic of “Homogeneous Space” and “Volume Planning” based on the two houses which can not be just regarded as some kinds of form of modern architecture or avant-garde's attempt that treat architecture as the way of revolution.Chapter 2 mainly analyses the points of disagreement to construction and there expressions on houses under the control of “Homogeneous Space” and “Volume Planning” based on Irrational Construction. The third chapter is about the comparison of two kinds of relationships of spaces and routines witch are also under the control of the two operating systems.Chapter 4 focuses on the “slip”of two architectural concepts seems based on certain coincidences,or the reduced state after re-construction.The purpose of study of regarding “Homogeneous Space” and “Volume Planning”as two operating systems shows some relatively independent individual values of their works in the context of modern architecture. And it builds up layers for understanding modern architecture.
