In recent years, the tower crane has been widely used as an essential heavy machinery with the rapid development of the real estate industry of China. However, due to the structure of the tower crane itself and the working environment, accidents caused by the tower crane have occurred frequently. This phenomenon should attract enough attentions of the construction industry and market supervisal department.Therefore, the tower crane safety monitoring system based on ARM processor is presented, which can effectively realize the monitoring of safety accidents caused by its parameters and collision accident caused between tower and ground buildings or tower crane and tower machines.A hardware platform of the tower crane safety monitoring system is presented in this paper. This hardware design scheme is introduced according to the design requirement of the tower crane safety monitoring system. The main control system, memory, LCD display, serial interface, basic sensors, relays and other modules are designed in detail. Then the hoisting, hook height, trolley displacement, tower arm angle, tilt angle, temperature of tower control box, local wind speed, geographic location and other parameters of the tower crane are obtained while operating parameters of other tower crane can also be obtained via the radio module in real-time. Then, the tower crane safety monitoring system software generates relay control signals to achieve safety monitoring of the tower crane.Finally, the measured results show that the hardware platform of the tower crane safety monitoring system can operate stablely and meet the design requirements well. Furthermore, the system has been checked and accepted by the user.
