With the rapid development of construction in our country, the tower crane is used more and more widely in the high-rise building construction transportation. The tower crane works with the high barycenter, large lifting and high speed and there are obstacles, such as the buildings around and multiple cross-operating tower cranes at close range, around the crane tower in the construction site, which brings hidden dangers to the construction safety. As a result, how to use the advanced techniques to improve construction safety is becoming a critical concerning topic.Owing to the features of the embedded processor, such as the powerful data processing ability, small size, wireless communications and networking capabilities, there is a growing tendency to design operational states equipment with embedded technology in the intelligent monitoring field.On the basis of the analysis of work characteristics and safety monitoring requirements tower crane, overall plan of tower crane intelligent monitoring and protecting system is designed with the ARM technology. The seamless connection between the core ARM processor and the acquisition module and PLC output module is realized in the system, taking ARM information processor as the core and 485 bus technology as a link. Half-duplex wireless radio and GPRS module are used for data exchange and remote information feedback. Some problem about the system is analyzed in detail in paper, such as the wireless communication network among the tower cranes, the real-time data collection method based on the bus technology, the data transmission based on wireless digital data radio and the selection of the sensor.With the issue about the tower crane anti-collision, distributed anti-collision system about the tower cranes and software is built and hardware structure of the system is designed, which make a complete tower cranes anti-collision system.According to the demand of real-time status monitoring and safety control for tower crane, software system model based on Linux and MiniGUI is designed with the embedded software technology. The multi-sensor collection system based on the MODBUS protocol and the PLC control software system is devised. The two important threads, communication processes thread and data collection thread, is constructed in parallel in the software system to enhance the real-time performance of the system.A test is carried out to verify the function, stability and accuracy of the specimen. All the case in anti-collision among tower cranes is verified with the three specimen. The results of the test indicate that tower crane intelligent monitoring system can reach desired design target.
