The Hui community, as a special type of people community, has been generally existing in cities of our nation for a long time. It also constitutes an important part of the diversification of urban space for its outstanding ethnic culture in religion.In recent years, large scale constructions in urban areas make the Hui community the subject of various relocations and reformations, and leave the realistic issue of how to protect and reconstruct the community. Due to the lack of correct understanding of their culture, a lot of social problems have arised during the reconstruction process. Meanwhile, few theoretic research have been done in urban planning areas that are constructive and practical, resulting in slow progress in the reconstruction and development of the Hui community.It has always been a challenging research project to study the protection and reconstruction of the Hui community especially under the general background of urban redevelopment. Not only one has to deal with the many culture differences and conflicts and resolve possible crisis following their traditions or ethnic properties, but also one has to pay attention to the economic and living conditions of the community. With these issues in mind, following the latest research development in basic urban reconstruction theory, in this paper we propose new methods to addressing the reconstruction of the Hui community in three aspects, material improvement, social development, and economic guidance. Out methods are built upon learning the lessons in previous reconstruction cases, analyzing the social behaviors and culture features of the Hui, and exploring the inside motivations for community development.This thesis includes five chapters, and chapter 1 clarifies the cause of the selected topic, the research significance, methodology and thesis framework. Chapter 2 is the foundation of theoretical research that clarifies the related theories and practical development trace and analyzes the topic with some cases from urban reconstruction perspectives. Chapter 3 and chapter 4 is the core that proposes sustainable material improvement strategy, harmonious community culture development strategy, and synergic economic guidance strategy that are built upon deeply investigating and systematic inducing he Hui community generation and development, spatial structure, social structure and ideological characteristics. The thesis overall analyzes the idea and method of community reconstruction. Furthermore the thesis combines the empirical research about Qingzhou Zhaode community reconstruction and studies the specific measures of implementing program beginning with function transformation, the originality protection, urban catalyst, and service system construction. In the end,the conclusion summarizes this thesis, analyzes the research defect and proposes the future research direction and emphasis.
