In recent years, due to its own advantage, the steel structure pedestrian bridge is widely used in the construction of urban pedestrian bridge. However, because of the drivers' carelessness, the accident of vehicle hitting pedestrian bridge is occurred frequently in recent years in our country. There are two main types of all the crashed bridges, one is caused by the vehicle hitting the bridge pier, and another one is the over-high truck hitting the superstructure of bridge. However, the current domestic studies are mainly of concrete bridge, the research of pedestrian bridge hit by vehicle is still limited.In this paper, ABAQUS finite element model is established for the analysis of the steel structure pedestrian bridge hitting by vehicle.For the case of the pier collision, the different impact angle and velocity based on the car of certain quality and the trucks of different quality are discussed in this work. So the stress-time curves, the displacement-time curves top of the pier, and the displacement-time curves where the pier is hit are calculated, and the functional relationships between the maximum displacement and vehicle's quality and velocity are also obtained. In addition, by the comparative analysis and mathematical derivation, the design formulas of equivalent impact force are calculated. Besides, for the steel structure pedestrian bridge's own feature, some simple collision avoidance measures are proposed in this paper.For the case of the superstructure collision, the different impact velocity and location based on the dump truck of certain quality are discussed in this work. So the stress-time curves, the displacement-time curves of superstructure of the bridge, and the displacement-time curves of the pier adjacent to the impact location are calculated, and the functional relationships between the maximum displacement and vehicle's velocity are also obtained. In addition, by the comparative analysis and mathematical derivation, the design formulas of equivalent impact force are calculated.
