RNAV (Regional Navigation) is a new navigation technology which is being implemented in China. RNAV can be defined as a method of navigation that permits aircraft operation on any desired course within the coverage of station-referenced navigation signals or within the limits of a self contained system capability, or a combination of these. Its advantage is easy to set up non-stop routes, parallel routes and bypass route, and to improve the navigation accuracy. Doppler Very-High-Frequency Omnidirectional Range (DVOR) and Distance Measuring Equipment (DME) are the important radio navigation systems for civil aviation, the combined DVOR/DME system is widely used in RNAV, and makes a great contribution for safe and effective flight. The paper makes research on realization and performance analysis of RNAV based on DVOR/DME and DME/DME on the basis of analysing working principles DVOR and DME. The square root formula is commonly used for estimating the navigation performance, the RNAV navigation accuracy is calculated based on DVOR/DME respectively, and the results are analysed and compared each other. The relevant conclusions derived from the paper can provide some theoretical supports for implementing RNAV based on DVOR and DME in China.
