The modern life in the concrete jungle and the high-speed development of the city have made the idyllic move away from us, the negative impact of industrialization has become increasingly prominent. Crowded cities, people's accelerated pace of life, the doubled pressure, the residents suffer from different levels of "urban disease", but the city park is a way of decongestion of urban life's negative impact on people like a "good medicine." But in our daily life, city parks tend to be large, comprehensive services for people in the whole city, inconvenient to reach, for a wide range of people.According to research statistics, the US pocket park Perret Park receives 128 tourists per square meter, per year, far more than the famous Central Park in New York. In terms of accessibility and way of travel and other considerations, large parks are more suitable for weekend, holiday activities, and small leisure parks which are easy to find and easy to reach are what people really need in their daily lives. Urban pocket parks came into being at the right moment, it's tiny, easy to reach, close to our daily life, and it has become an important place to meet the high-density urban recreation needs. However, the current domestic construction and development of the city pocket parks are still on a relatively low level from both understanding and practice aspects. The pocket parks are often built as decorative green landscape, with some simple afforestation construction, similar public facilities, the pocket park seems unattractive, and is not able to express the spiritual characteristics of a city. At the same time, because of the rapid development of the city, considerable memories of the urban space and history and culture of the city are vanishing. People seem to have amnesia when it comes to the memory about the city. Thus, the paper will integrate the memories of the city into the design of urban pocket parks, using the five senses design, landscape narrative theory to strengthen people's sensory experiences in space, wake up memories of the city, and eventually sum up a suitable system of urban pocket park designing theory.Taking urban pocket parks as the main object, with researches conducted on thetheory and practice of the pocket parks at home and abroad, and analysis of the definition, classification, functions and features of urban pocket parks, this paper selects six pocket parks in the new city and the old city of Qingdao, collecting data through field research and questionnaires, making the appropriate statistical analysis diagram, pointing out the main problems existing in the pocket parks through analyzing and classifying, proposes to use the five senses narrative mode, and integrate the memory of the city into a pocket park to solve the main problems. This paper describes the relation among landscape narrative, the five senses design, and pocket parks, and also introduces the concept, research status, application, design examples of the five senses design and landscape narrative theory, paving the way theoretically for the establishment of a new design theory- the five senses narrative mode. In the specific pocket park design, the first step is to determine the narrative space theme, followed by introduction of situational specific application of the five senses elements in landscape design, and then create the expression pattern of the spatial structure, finally summarizes the pocket park spatial design strategy with the guidance of five sense narrative theory and carries on a preliminary discussion on the future development direction of the pocket park. Finally, the paper takes Qingdao naval culture pocket park as an example, and applies the five senses narrative mode to the practice of urban pocket parks design for verification. A complete set of the five senses narrative theory mode is formed to guide the construction of urban pocket parks systematically.
