The Research On Urban Pocket Park Design Based On Horticultural Therapy

In recent years,there is lacking of urban land.The emergence of urban pocket parks is necessary to ease the pressure on urban land.Looking at the current status of urban pocket parks in China,there are still many problems in terms of spatial layout,users,and plant landscapes that cannot meet people’s demand for daily activities’ space.Therefore,this paper proposes to apply horticultural therapy to the design of urban pocket parks,which can improve the space environment of pocket parks through the environment treatment,the entertainment treatment,and the horticultural treatment,andmeanwhile,strengthen the physical and mental healthof users.In this paper,the research object is urban pocket park and the research method is the horticultural therapy.Firstly,it analyzed and summarized the domestic and foreign horticultural therapy,the development of pocket park,confirms the research framework,and adopted advantages of two foreign parks in views of users,spatial layout,plant collocation,and types of horticultural activities,etc.By using the case comparison method Secondly,combined with the current level of urban development in China and the advantages of natural resources and climatic conditions in the southwest region of China,taking the Chengdu City as the research area,field surveys were conducted at the Chengdu Luhu Red-stone Park and the Liulin Amusement Park by ways of on-site recording,sketching,etc.The luhu redstone park in Wuhu has the embryo of the horticultural therapy for plant landscapes.Liulin Amusement Park meets the basic characteristics of urban pocket parks in terms of users and spatial structure.Combining the advantages of these two parks,the new design method obtained from the investigation and research was applied to the design and renovation of the pocket park in Zhongpeng Garden Community in Qingyang District,Chengdu City.The park’s space layout was initially designed and intensified according to the needs of the users.Given different functional areas,user’s sensory requirements for the plant landscape can be satisfied from the sense of vision,smell,hearing,taste,and touch of the environmental treatment method,and user’s activity needs can be enriched from the play therapy and horticultural treatment of the horticultural therapy.Finally,by applying the horticultural therapy to the design practice of the pocket park in the Zhongpeng Garden community,the purposes of enriching the user’s dailyactivities,improving their mood,increasing their self-confidence,and relieving their physical and mental pressure can be achieved.And at the same time,it can be proved that the design concept of the horticultural therapy can be used in the design of urban pocket parks.For all this,in this article,applying the new method of the horticultural therapy into urban pocket parks is still in the exploratory design stage.In the subsequent design exploration,the feasibility and practicality of the horticultural therapy shall be explored from a comprehensive multi-view and multi-discipline perspective.
