Study On The Relationship Between Urbanization And Industrial Structure Evolution In Guangdong

Since reform and opening up, although there are differences in the rate of economic development among the cities and provinces of China, the rate of economic development of China are rising significantly, and the urbanization rate of the cities and provinces in China is increasing, the standard and quality of people’s living continued to improve. The urbanization rate of Guangdong Province is changed from 16.95 percent in 1978 to 68.71 percent in 2015, and the industrial structure of Guangdong Province has become a pattern which the tertiary industry has ranked the first, the secondary ranked the second, and the primary industry third. There’s a very close relationship between the urbanization and the industrial structure evolution. On one hand, the gathering in the resource factors during the development of urbanization has provided a strong support to the adjustment of industrial structure evolution; on the other hand, the adjustment of industrial structure evolution is an inexhaustible motive power of urbanization development.This dissertation systematically reviews literatures about the recent domestic and international urbanization and industrial structure evolution research. Then it analyses the current development of urbanization and the industrial structure of Guangdong Province. After that, this article also analyses the relationship between urbanization development and industrial structure of Guangdong Province in detail, and considers that the primary industry is an important foundation of urbanization, the development of secondary industry is an important part to support and promote urbanization, the tertiary industry is an inexhaustible motive power of urbanization development. It analyses the impact of urbanization on the internal structure of each industry at the same time. Subsequently, according to the data of Guangdong Provincial from1978 to 2014 which contain non-farm household population, the proportion of secondary industry in GDP, and the proportion of the tertiary industry in GDP, by using cointegration and Granger causality test, we have made empirical analysis about the relationship among the urbanization, secondary industry and tertiary industry. The empirical analysis showed that the development of tertiary industry has a significant role in boosting the urbanization rate, and the Granger causality test reveals that both the urbanization and secondary industries of GuangdongProvince play an important role in the development of tertiary industry. Finally, the dissertation proposes some recommendations and future studies such as accelerating the urbanization of transfer rural populations, improving the development of advanced equipment manufacturing industry, vigorously developing the productive service industry.
