With the family migration ratio continues to improve, the consumption of floating population family has been caused widespread concern in the academic community since the 21st century. However, at present most domestic researches have mainly the following three weak points. Firstly, the existing researches focus on individual, few pay attention to the family consumption. Secondly, the existing researches ignore the spatial difference of consumption. Thirdly, the existing researches mainly use survey data in some areas to study the consumption features of floating population family on one level, but lack the comprehensive consideration to regional characteristics, family factors and the head’s individual characteristics of household, and carries on the overall analysis at the national level. Therefore, based on the National Floating Population’s Dynamic Monitoring Survey in 2012 provided by the former State Commission of population and family planning, this paper tries to analyze the regional differences and their determinants of floating population family consumption from the perspective of space, and then put forward the corresponding countermeasure and suggestion in order to improve the floating population’s family lives in the destination combining the research conclusion. This paper first reviews related theory and empirical research, then compares the consumption between floating population family and urban household, there are different demographic and social economics characteristics and different regions of floating population family from consumption level, consumption structure and the propensity to consumption. We get some conclusion. Firstly, the results suggest that although the floating population’s lives in the cities have reached a well-off stage, their consumption emphasizes material and their weak position in consumption in comparison to local urban residents is particularly reflected in the low-level development-and-enjoyment-oriented consumption. Moreover, the consumption gap of floating population family is widening because of the influence of heads individual endowment and family factor. Besides, the higher the level of economic development of the region, the stronger of floating population family consumption ability, but the floating family which have reasonable consumption structure mainly distribute in the medium level of development region. Then the paper uses the multiple regression models to examine factors affecting the floating population’s family consumption. The results show that the spatial difference of floating population family consumption level is caused by the micro factors and macro factors. Specifically, the consumption of floating population exhibits an inverted U-shaped life-cycle pattern, income level, human capital, local family size, economic development level and city rank of the destination are positively related to the urban consumption of their families, but their remittances and institutional constraints restrain the increase of their urban consumption, and the floating population family consumption level has a negative correlation with the degree of economic development of the region, the consumption level of interprovincial floating population family lower than intra— provincial floating population family. At last, On the basis of the above findings, we put forward several countermeasures and policy suggestions to improve the floating population’s family lives and optimize the consumption structure in the destination.
