The development of basin economy has an important impact on the water environment, and investigating the coupling relation ship between them becomes hot topics in the study of river basin sustainable. Ganjiang river is the largest tributary of the Poyang Lake, and its quality of water environment has a direct impact on the water-environmental security of Poyang Lake even Poyang Lake Basin.Based on the socio-economic and water environment status quo in Ganjiang river basin from 1999 to 2012, combined with Statistics, Environmental Economics and other related theories, this research analyses and forecasts the evolution of the socio-economic and water environment of the basin in terms of time and space. On the basis of this analysis and foresting, this paper uses Correlation Analysis and EKC analysis to make the interaction relationship analysis of the evolution of socio-economic and water environment in this basin. By constructing evaluate formulate, comprehensive utilization of principal component analysis method and coupling model, this research builds the coupling coordinate model, and uses this model to analyse the coupling degree and coordinate degree between the social economy development and the water environmental quality.The results show that: during 1999~2012, the social economy development of Ganjiang river basin is rapid and the pressure of water environment of this basin increases year by year; industry structure and the pressure of water environment shows positive correlation; EKC curve does not apply to all index of the research on the relationship between the social economy and water environment of Ganjiang river basin; the year of 2006 is the time node, periods from 1999 to 2006 is the type for the social economic lag phase and periods from 2007 to 2012 is the type for the water environment lag phase; in the Ganjiang river basin,the coupling degree and the coordinate degree between social economic and water environment are not ideal form 1999 to 2012. If this basin continue the existing development speed, the pressure of water environment brought by the social and economic development will become very huge in the next years. So this basin need to take the corresponding optimal control measures to make both the socio-economic and water environment get benign coordination degree of symbiosis, such as optimizing the industrial structure, strengthen management of industrial waste water, improving the sewage pipe network and so on.
