With its splendid ancient civilization, an important geostrategiclocation and rich in oil resources, the Middle East has become a hotarea in the world today. In recent years, with the rapid developmentof world tourism, the Middle East has becoming the darling of theworld tourism market. As a sunrise industry with many advantages,tourism has become positive property in this hotspots.Like other Gulf countries, Oman is also an typical rentier nation.It was mainly driven by the oil economy after independence.Similarly, Oman is also facing the problem of depletion of oilresources. In order to get rid of dependence on oil, to achievesustainable economic and social development, Oman vigorouslyimplement economic diversification policy. With its uniqueadvantages, tourism has become one of the important options for diversification. Tourism activities is based on the city, accordingly,the growing of tourism has many effects on the urbanexpand. Tourism has become a new driving force for urbandevelopment, and urban construction also provides the premise andfoundation for tourism development. This interactive relationshipbetween tourism and urban social development has become the keyareas of academic research.This paper is divided into four parts.The first part is The Introduction, which describes the purposeof writing, significance, scoping studies and status quo of researchat home and abroad.The second part describes the prosperity of tourism in Omanand its causes. It is include two sections. First section reviews theOmani tourism development process: the development of tourismunder the Teymur and Qaboos dominance. It can sort out threesteps during Qaboos reigon: step one is the initial stage of tourismdevelopment, infrastructure construction, to prepare for thedevelopment of the tourism industry; step two describe that omancontinue to improve the infrastructure for tourism development,while consciously make policies and development plans; step three,under the guidance of the government, oman’s tourism developmentgoals are strengthening, and also make some achievements. Section two analyzes the causes of the prosperity of tourism.Including with rich tourism resources, convenient location; stronggovernment support; planning ahead, play to their strengths andimagining tourist destination.The third part analyzes the impact of tourism on urbandevelopment. First contrast describes the city of Muscat andSalalah separately, before and after the development of tourism. Inthe second section analyzes impact of tourism on Oman urbandevelopment from multiple perspectives; including the impact onthe city’s economy; the impact of urban form; impact on urbaninfrastructure and impact on urban culture. In addition, thedevelopment of tourism has caused some negative effects: localprices inflation; the impact on the local society and culture;pollution and destruction on natural landscape and theenvironment.The fourth part discuss the future influence factors on therelationships between Oman tourism and urban development.The author sort out process of the Omani tourism development,characteristics, analyzes the reasons for tourism flourish,discussesthe impact of tourism on urban development and forecast the futurerelationships between Oman tourism and urban development on thebasis of a wide range of collecting, collating relevant materials. This paper also with a view to supply the current domestic studiesbetween tourism and urban development relations in The MiddleEast.
