Enterprises pay more and more attention to new product development (NPD) with the increasing of sciecnce and technology level and needs of the market competition.Due to new product will taking a larger market and gainning more profit for an enterprise the NPD capacity has became an important standart to measure the core competitiveness of an enterprise. The time to market of a new product have a great affect for the whole strategy of an enterprise.But the NPD is a complex work with many stages technology and management.If any or some stages get struck by problems it will cause the project schedule delay, even cause the failure of the project.Therefore, the time management is crucial to a NPD project, it is an important content of a NPD project management.Project time management is one of the nine knowledge system of the modern project management.lt refers to project manager take a series of management acivities with related technologies,methods and tools for realizing the project goals step by step and to satisfied the reqierments and expectations of project interested parties.The aim of project time management is to allocate resources reasonably,make work efficiency optimization and ensure project completed on time with good quality through the project schedule plan and project process control. The main work of project time management includes project work breakdown, sorting the tasks, estimating the duration of tasks, planning the project schedule, allocating resources, monitoring project process and so on.According to the idea of combining theory with practice and on the base of reading and studying a large number of relevant theoretical writings and the NPD projects management documents of the DF Company,the paper summarizes the main contents and the implementation methods of project time management,using the basic concepts and methods of project time management researchs the time management of the Guangzhou DF Company’s3D light curtain R&D project, analyses the problems of the DF Company R&D project management, then devolopes a time management solution of the3D light curtain R&D poject with the modern project time management tools and techniques.The solution includes defining the tasks of the3D light curtain R&D poject with work breakdown structure (WBS) estimating the tasks duration time with the analogy and three time estimation method and planning the project schedule with the network diagram and the critical path method(CPM).At the same time the paper propose some monitoring method and corrective actions during the project process.During the study of the3D light curtain R&D project time management process the paper try a NPD project time management solution that suitable for the DF Company and small and medium-sized enterprises like the DF Company.The solution promotes the normalization of the DF Company R&D project management and provides some reference for the same type enterprises.
