The bus industry production process is very complicated in the discretemanufacturing industry, such as production process tracking and inventorymanagement, order management, material management etc. There were a lot ofresearch and practices with automotive industry to build IT application in productionmanagement. The lower layer application such as factory automation and the upperlayer application such as ERP has been gradually mature, and formed variety ofdecentralized management system. But there is not a unitive platform to integratethese systems. It caused the "information island". Manufacturing execution system(MES) is execution layer between planning layer and the lower workshop, and mainlyresponsible for production management and scheduling. It can connect the top layerand lower workshop through the production control, real-time monitoring anddiagnosis. MES eliminate the information islands; meet the needs of enterprisedevelopment. In this paper, the author discusses the MES system construction and applicationin bus manufacturing enterprises, base on the actual work in YT company.Base onthe function model theory of MES, combined with the specific production andmanufacturing features of YT company and MES system design principles, the YTMES system has been comprehensive planned, the business needs, the applicationobjectives and implementation scope have been identified. The production planmanagement, material management, quality management and so on four big corefunction modules of YT MES system have been designed in detail, and the executivepolicy has been summed based on practical experience. Experiences show that theconstruction and application of MES system play an important role in leanmanufacturing, cost reduction of bus manufacturing enterprises and the improvementof enterprise production and management.
