From the invention of the steam engine in1760s to the introduction of the world first assembly line by Ford in 1913, the importance of equipment in the enterprise keeps increasing. Nowadays, all intelligent manufacturing plants can be seen everywhere. However, various types of failures occurres to the equipment frequently, making many manufacturing enterprises overwhelmed. Equipment downtime will bring all kinds of business losses, and the delivery postponement to customers may lead to the risk of losing market share, therefore the equipment is very important for all manufacturing enterprises. How to make the equipment working under an efficient, consistent, trouble-free and stable conditions, has become an important issue to manufacturing enterprises. In order to solve the urgent need of manufacturing enterprises for equipment maintenance, Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) activities emerged and were applied quickly in the major manufacturing enterprises.Although almost all of the large-scale manufacturing enterprises are using TPM as a tool to manage equipment, the most successful implementation enterprises were still in Japan, which is the birthplace of TPM. Many European and American enterprises in China are implementing TPM, but the TPM are just a mere formality in most enterprises, and ultimately did not play a real effect of TPM. Whether establishing a set of TPM implementation model applicable for European and American enterprises in China or not, has become the key to implement TPM activities successfully.Based on seven years of professional experience and study in industrial engineering and TPM, combined with the practical experience to participate in TPM implementation activities in factory D, with the combination of theoretical and empirical research methods, author mainly focuses on incentives policy, monitoring strategy and responsibilities division of related departments during the implementation of TPM activities in factory D. This article aims to verified the validity of TPM implementation model in factory D, then makes a conclusion about how to implement TPM activities, and provides reference for other European and American enterprises in China for TPM activities implementation.
