Together with the dramatically development of the information technology, it's widely recognized by more and more enterprises that information technology is one of the key drivers to promote and realize innovation and empower core competency, and therefore more and more information technology construction project have been invested. However together with the IT projects coming, many of them, even up to 40% ratio, have failed. The reasons have been grouped by some research institutes into 4 categories: project organization, lack of requirement management, lack of planning and control and incorrect estimation. All of these four categories are in the scope of project management. It's therefore necessary and with special meaning to review and re-study project management under such situation.The case studied in this dissertation comes from the Motorola's retail channel management (RCM) project that was initiated at the end of 2005 to promote the go-to-market strategy and improve the competency of channel management. IBM, as the consulting and system implementation service vendor, spent almost 2 years to lead the system release at Aug. 2008. As the first domestic or even global project in fast electronic product field, it was very complex, got many business departments and people involved, and had a long implementation cycle. It therefore experienced many kinds of issues in the 2 years: always delayed schedule, keeping changed scope, frequent replacement of team member, and so on.Based on project management theory, utilizing method of case study, this dissertation analyzes the RCM project. After research and summarize, the problems are identified out centralized in 2 parts: project planning and scope management, project organization and team management.From perspective of the project management and based on the reality of the project, suggestions that was feasible and suitable for the huge and complex IT implementation project has been given: to ensure the successful project implementation by enhancing customer management to facilitate project plan definition and scope management as well as stabilizing project team and reinforcing team building,...
