With the rapid development of optical fiber access technology, PON network has been increasingly welcomed by everyone as an ideal way of access. Because of its advantages of high bandwidth, the whole business QoS guarantee, high efficiency, powerful function of OAM and so on, as a special way of access, GPON has become the mainstream technology of the optical access network. Thus, it is meaningful to research the GPON. This paper focuses on two aspects of GPON system for research: system security and dynamic bandwidth allocation. For the safety of GPON, due to the simple topological structure and the transmission mechanism of the downstream broadcast data, its data may be eavesdropping and system security will be threatened further. So it is necessary to encrypt the data first, and then transmit. In this paper, the GPON encryption system and AES algorithm are studied. Also, simulation of hardware is implemented on the counter mode AES algorithm of the GPON system. Dynamic bandwidth allocation is one of the key technology of GPON. It can provide the corresponding authorization bandwidth for the upstream ONU through dynamic bandwidth allocation. Since GPON standard G984.3 do not make a specified explicitly for the dynamic bandwidth allocation, a good dynamic bandwidth allocation scheme can be designed for the upstream bandwidth according to the specific situation. Thus, the bandwidth utilization is improved and the time delay is reduced. This work proposes a dynamic bandwidth allocation algorithm based on T-CONT. Through the distribution of upstream bandwidth according to the different priority T-CONT and the algorithm simulation on the OPNET software platform, the feasibility and effectiveness of the algorithm are verified by the analysis of the results of simulation.
