In the coal mine or various types of factory production workshop, explosions and casualties occur frequently because dust concentration exceeds in those working environment. This paper designs a portable system for monitoring dust concentration and giving workers and supervisors feedback timely, to help people do a good job of dust elimination more effectively and ensure the safety of materials production, storage and transport and personal health.This paper describes the design of overall system architecture and subsystems of hardware and software respectively. The hardware subsystem consists of the GP2Y1010AU0 F as core dust sensors and Open407Z-C development platform from STMicroelectronics(main control chip STM32F407Z). The internal infrared diode can be output with dust concentration value in the range from 0 to 0.5 mg/m3 as a linear relationship, and this concentration value can be calculated from the voltage value presently. Communication between the microcontroller and the dust sensor is realized by the GPI/O.Software subsystems include system control platform drivers. The programming work of ST-Link/v2 emulator driver and USB to TTL serial port driver program has been completed. And the problem of setting clock frequency, initializating GPI/O and serial port module and configurating control registers has been solved. The software subsystem also includes the driver program of system control platform for providing a man-machine interface, perform operations and data processing.This system has the characteristics of small size, portability, friendly man-machine interface, and low cost. It could monitor the dust concentration and alarm in time to ensure personal safety and reduce dust hazard at the job site. At the end of the article, the functions of system have been tested to confirm the feasibility, reliability and stability of the whole system.
