Data Journalism:A Study On The New Way Of Storytelling At The Big Data Era

As a result of the information revolution, big data has brought a full range of changes to our life, work, thinking, and our society. The news communication industry is an important part of the information industry and is inevitably affected by it. Under the function of the era, technology,philosophy, history, individuals, and other multiple conditions, the data journalism come into being as a new report mode.Data has gradually become an important resource and driving force of news reports; the data journalism also changes the production process of traditional news and puts forward more new requirements to the reporters. However, like the traditional news, the nature of the data journalism is still to show the truth of the facts to the public; and the starting point and attribution of data news is still to illustrate the story to the public clearly.Data journalism is a new thing in China and starts up quite late, which is still at the initial stage of exploration and development, and the academic research and practice of which are relatively backward. In this paper, studies are to be made in two aspects: theory and practice. The first chapter introduces the construction background and definitions of scholars of data journalism.On this basis, the connotation of data news is illustrated: that is, to tell the story with data; the second chapter makes a comparison of the data journalism practices between the domestic one and the foreign one, pointing out the difference between China’s data news practice and foreign data news practice; the third chapter is the focus of this paper. It takes the specific example of “the political figure”, starting from the production process of data journalism. It not only examines the present situation of the practice of data journalism in China, but analyzes the “new” way of story telling by the data journalism than the traditional news report; the forth chapter makes a reflection of China’s data news practice on the basic of the previous three chapters.
