With the growth of demands of markets and the progress of PON technology, FTTH has become the joint focus of both traditional and new emerged telecommunications service providers. The development of PON FTTH is the coming trend without any doubt. Every telecommunications service provider is endeavored to figure out how to carry the PON network with the use of FTTH and ODN. And moreover, ODN network planning is the main issue of providers to reduce the cost, to improve the quality of network transit and the efficiency of maintenance of light network, and to offer better service for users. Therefore, how to sketch and plan ODN network and the transit and distribution of light signals, are the important problem without ignore during the constructing of FTTH network.In fact, nowadays there are still many problems existing during the actual ODN network construction, such as the low utilization of PON interface, the unreasonable setting of the bean splitter, the redundancy of the Optical fiber connector and so on. They all increase the cost for the whole project.In this paper, we are going to discuss the situation and future prospects of PON network and FTTH, to analyze the classification of PON system through its key technical methods, and to draw a comparison between its functions; with the introduction of the constitution and features of FTTH networking, and detailed specification of the ODN layer construction, especially analysis to its features layer by layer, we will study the problems we may come across in the typical situations during ODN planning, and put forward measures for those problems. And afterwards, through actual cases of ODN program, and with using the methods we discussed before, we will redesign those planning for actual cases, layer by layer, from low to high layer, and finally solve those problems in actual ODN planning, figure out and summarize methods for it. We will evaluate and test for ODN networking in the cases, in order to verify the feasibility of those methods for design planning.
