Optical communication technology has been widely used for many years, especially in thelong-distance communication and metro network.Because of the cost constraints and fiber hot welding problem, it is almost impossible to useoptical fiber to access single subscriber to realize fiber to home (FTTH). In recent years, along withthe development of PON and mechanical connecting technology, the cost of optical fiber to homereduced rapidly, and FTTH can be realized. This paper firstly studies the basic principle of EPON technology, GPON technology, including the technology evolution history, protocol stack, frame structure, the basic flow. Thispaper also analyzes the application of GPON technique in the real network, network structure, product realization, and service access including voice, Internet, IPTV.Combining with engineering examples, this paper analyzes the application of FTTH broadbandaccess technology of GPON in-depth, including the construction principles construction scheme, the actual network architecture.Based on a series of analysis and research, this paper summarizes the existing problems onGPON FTTH network applications, puts forward the corresponding solutions based on thetheoretical research and the maintain experience.Including:The ODN planning and construction problems, including the selection of optical cabledistribution point, the way of fiber to home, the planning of optical attenuation.Voice service problems, including comparison of H.248and SIP, the advantages anddisadvantages of these protocols, VLAN planning and the interoperability problem of voice service,IP obtaining of voice service.Terminal management problems, how to manage the FTTH terminal of numerous, how torealize business distribution. These problems have much relationship with existing FTTH networkdeployment and maintenance; the solutions of these problems can provide some suggestion tocurrent FTTH network which now is widely used in the user access layer.
