Research On The Construction Of American Library Makerspace

In digital age, the e-resource of library is continually increasing, and the information need of users is changing at the same time. The users do not only use information. They have a desire to create and share information with librarian and others. In the recent years, American public libraries introduce "Makerspace". The readers bring various creative tools into the library and communicate with each other. And the library provides users with a public communication platform to develop the creative economy of the community. Introducing a makerspace, the library provides the maker with a physical space and a knowledge space. In the physical and knowledge space, makers can communicate and cooperate with each other. They also develop new ideals and make new items. This paper elaborates the rise of maker and makerspace, and introduces the successful experience of American library makerspace. In this paper, the author discusses the necessity and the points of our library drawing lessons from American experience, in order to follow the development of strategy of innovation-driven and adapt to the "new normal".This paper can be divided into six chapters. In the first chapter, the author introduces the significance and background of the research topic, the research methods, and research contents. In this chapter, the author also introduces the foreign and Chinese theoretical research of the library makerpace. The second chapter summarizes the concept of Maker, the concept of makerspace, the background of makerspace, and the value and elements of the library makerspace, analyzes the attention form American library and Chinese library to the makerspace. In the third chapter, the author firstly introduces the establishment and development of American library makersapce. This chapter then elaborates the practice of American public and academic library makerpace. This chapter finally includes the above practice. The forth chapter presents the practice of Chinese public library makerpace and Chinese academic library makerpsace. In this chapter, the author finally analyzes the deficiency of Chinese library makerspace. The fifth chapter analyzes the enlightenment of the construction of our academic library, drawing lessons from the practice of American public and academic library makerpace. This chapter introduces the feasibility and necessity of drawing lessons from the practice of American public and academic library makerpace, and the key points of reference to Chinese academic library. The last chapter analyzes the deficiency of the paper and the new angle to the future research.
