With the advance of communication technologies, the field of information has been involved in all aspects of people’s life. Currently, communication is mainly divided into two modes:wireless mode and wired mode. The traditional and typical practice in application of intelligent buildings is to realize the intelligent control by cable connection or WIFI. The former method requires a lot of cables, causing the higher cost and the destroy of building structure; the latter method brings signals easily interfered by obstacles, and costs a lot as well. Therefore, how to reduce communication cost without destroying building structure is an issue worthy of studying.In order to solve this issue, researchers at home and abroad have proposed a technology known as Power Line carrier Communication (Power Line Communication, PLC in short) which is utilizing the existing mature Power Line as the media to transfer data. However, the instruction of power lines is not designed to transfer information originally, the power lines are distributed unevenly, and the power lines are easily affected by environmental factors. As a result, power line carrier communication has complicated channel characteristics, strong noise and poor reliability. So how to realize the stable and reliable power line carrier communication, reduce the interference and packet loss rate in the process of transmission, and improve reliability is a big problem of power line carrier technology currently.Aiming at the problem above, on the one hand, we consider that if the power line is too long, the power line communication in long distance produces quite large error. Thanks to the characteristics of GSM wireless communication technology, namely wide coverage and communication stability, in this paper we design a system which is based on power line carrier communication combining with GSM. This system can extend the communication distance, reduce the interference by the means of lessening the power line used, and protect the original structure of buildings. On the other hand, measures in two aspects can be taken to reduce the power line interference and improve reliability. One aspect is physical layer, and the research in this aspect is quite mature; another is network layer, namely algorithm and communication protocol. This paper mainly embarks from the network layer and uses ant colony algorithm to optimize path and find the optimal path reducing packet loss and improving the reliability of communication.Based on these concerns, an intelligent building remote monitoring system based on Android and power line carrier communication is designed and developed in this paper. In general, this system can be divided into three parts as monitoring terminal, concentrator and terminals. In order to improve the system and convenient the user, the monitoring terminal of the system is equipped with two:PC monitoring terminal and mobile monitoring terminal. In order to reduce the cost of communication,the mobile monitoring terminal can be used anywhere at any time under the condition of long distance, and the PC monitoring terminal can be used under the condition of short distance. The control chips of both concentrator and terminals adopt the series of ATMEL single chip microcomputers. Concentrator is the hub of this system, communicating with PC through serial port, with mobile terminal through the GSM network, and with terminals through the power line. Terminals are the direct executors of this system, which realizing the control of the working condition of the electrical equipment by controlling relays and the collection of information by controlling the temperature sensors. At present, the intelligent building remote monitoring system based on Android and power line carrier communication has been developed, which reached the expected requirement, and has been applied in more than one building, the scene of the running in good condition.
