With the rapid development of information communication technology, all walks of life rapidly developed, and educational game industry is no exception. Educational game have its place in the area of education with its unique charm, and its educational value manifested make it much potential to develop in the field of education. At the same time, with the improvement of Chinese comprehensive strength, the investment in education game increased, and researches of educational games from different aspects become deeper. But study on idioms educational game was relatively less. A way to learn idioms without boring experience and with high efficiency is needed, which can develop students’ ability to learn idioms and improve the teaching quality of idioms, and reach a goal of "learning by playing".The thesis mainly introduced the process of the development of a kind of educational game software on the learning of idioms, which included the setting up of the system development environment, related database used in developing the software and method of application. In this software, learners can choose game module according to their own preferences, and the administrator can query, add, modify and delete idioms to manage idioms data. There was two features of this idiom game:one is that users can design and modify the game by themselves to reach a result of "you design and I guess". The other is that comparing with other idiom games, this game has powerful database, which can ensure players to get different idioms in their repeatedly game playing, prevent players giving up playing by the reason of lacks freshness.Based on the researches of the theory and practice of educational games of domestic and foreign, the study found that there was a lack of educational games about idioms. To solve this problem, the author analyzed relative theory about educational games, learning based game and digital learning, then designed the game from the two aspects of the overall design and detailed design. The overall design included game planning and game introduction. Detailed design included interface design, function design, level design and database design. This game developed in Visual Studio C++6.0 development environment, and used C++ language and dual buffer technology to achieve the game function and interface design. It used Microsoft SQL Server 2008 to store data. Taking primary school, middle school, high school idioms as content, the author designed and developed an educational game named "The World of Idioms" software based on PC platform. It hopes will help in improving the ability of students to accumulate and use idioms, and expects to provide some meaningful reference when people develop and design educational game based on the PC platform in the future.
