The ignition pulse generator is a kind of special pulse constant-current source to test the performance of the ignition device, it produces a constant-current rectangular pulse signal with controllable amplitude and width which is used to excite the tested devices, and make them fuse and produce ignition. The amplitude and width of set pulse current can be measured and displayed in real-time, to realize the testing and debugging of the tested product’s performance, so high-quality output pulse current is the key to test the performance of the ignition device. However, there are no relevant constant-current source products in the domestic market, so the research on the design scheme of the ignition pulse generator has very important theoretical and practical significance.Combined with the task of the “Ignition Pulse Generator” project, this design researches mainly focused on the requirement of the index of the project. The design’s main idea is using the FPGA as the main control chip of the digital measurement and the logic control part, to control the pulse constant current source circuit output setting pulse current, the high power pulse constant current source circuit is the difficulty of this design. The main research contents of this paper are as follows:1. Discuss the research significance of the ignition pulse generator and the research status at home and abroad, and work out the overall scheme of the ignition pulse generator.2. Propose two circuit design schemes respectively based on separate components and FPGA, which can realize the functions of the logic control part, to ensure the accurate logic control signal, and then output the high quality pulse current. After the experiment, comparing the advantages and disadvantages of the two schemes, finally choose FPGA as the main control chip of logic control part, the main module includes pulse current amplitude control PWM wave module, pulse current width control PWM wave module, a core control module, and width measurement and display control module.3. According to the “Ignition Pulse Generator” project needs high quality pulse current, propose a design scheme of high power pulse constant current source circuit which uses Metal-Oxide-Semiconductor Field-Effect Transistor as switching element, mainly including active low pass filter circuit, constant current source circuit, differential compensation circuit and over load protection circuit. The experimental results show that the output of the pulse current rise time is short, the ripple is small and the overshoot is small.4. Complete the circuit design of the display part of the ignition pulse generator is, including the output pulse current amplitude measurement circuit and the output pulse current width measurement circuit.5. Aiming at the problems in the design process, circuits are debugged and analyzed, and the solution is given. At last, the prototype of the ignition pulse generator is made, and the prototype is tested synthetically. At the end of the paper, summarize the work of this design, and put forward some problems that are worth further study in this design.The test results of the prototype show that all the basic functions of the ignition pulse generator are realized and all the indexes meet the design requirements.
