Fathers’effection on children’s education has attracted more and more attention. The variety show on Hunan Satellite TV Dad Where Are We Going?, has not only caused social discussion on fathers’education, but also provided plenty materials of observational studies. This study aims to make suggestions for fathers to improve communication language with their children, by analysis of the five fathers with different parenting types in Dad Where Are We Going? (Season I).This study used not only self-defined code system to analyze parenting styles, but also Inventory of Communicative Asts-Abridged, in order to quantify all the parent-child communication language in the TV show. The parenting types and speech acts of the five fathers were carefully discussed, as well as the five children’s social interchanges, talking initiative, and speech acts.It turned out that the five fathers respectively tended to leading, emotion and daily communication, encouraging, communication in positive situation, and direct expression. These fathers have five things in commom:(1)The propotion of communication about daily routine is high; (2)Dominance is explicit; (3)Affective interaction is taken into account; (4)Encouragement of child independent is ignored; (5)Physical punishment is never asked.These results will deepen our cognition about father-child communication language, and improve the methods in which fathers talk with their children.
