In an age of accelerating globalization and informationization, non-traditional security problems become more and more prominent, and the demand for information science service of security also increasingly pronounced. Amass of intelligence service in non-traditional security fields need professional guidance from information science.To explore how to satisfy the demand from practical work in non-traditional security fields, taking information science education and training as a typical case, combining the research results at home and abroad, and practical intelligence service analyst, contrasting American and Chinese information science education and training. Concluded from the contrast, there are four features in information science education and training in America:professional intelligence analysis, integrated course curriculum, sustainable abilities developing and highlighted practical intelligence service capacity. As for the current situation of our information science education and training, course curriculum, way of combining theory with practice, development direction of intelligence training and acknowledge of training on thinking ability still need to be consummated and improved. It’s necessary to draw on the experience of other countries and combine with the practical situation in China, optimizing information science education and training system in China, enriching the course curriculum, at last,improving the attention in the sense of non-traditional security issues produced in information science field.To realize the situation of intelligence service in China, three cases are chose from economic security, food security and technology security to be analyzed. By synthesizing the intelligence service in these cases, three points are summarized:the importance of discovering relation in intelligence gathering, the using of structured analysis methods in intelligence analysis and combining of logical thinking and creative thinking. Practical intelligence service in a few other non-traditional fields is also summarized.Synthesizing the inadequate of information science education and training and the performance of practical intelligence service cases in non-traditional fields in China, the conclusions of this paper is made:information science education for graduate students should be oriented to the competency of practical intelligence service in non-traditional security fields, founding information science theory research on non-traditional security, increasing principle, technology and application on non-traditional security, taking the improvement in interdisciplinary knowledge, thinking ability, organizational coordination ability, practical skills and education quality as educational objectives. Thinking training courses also should be introduced, and more content on intelligence gathering and intelligence analysis needs to be enforced in the courses. As for intelligence training, it’s necessary to insist on the role that intelligence played in decision-supporting, so this philosophy should run through the entire training process, and take the practical requirement differences as a parameter to carry out different levels of intelligence training. Apart from these advice, combining universities and research institutions in graduate students’education, and constructing a multi-domain sharing platform to promote the information science education and training level.
