As an essential part of modern life, mobile phone has been gradually developed from the early stage of handset to a functional intelligent communication equipment in a short period of several decades. As an important component for communication, mobile phone antenna must be developed to satisfy the needs of the rapid upgrade. One of the difficulties in design of mobile phone antenna is that the antenna need to cover multiple bands inside a more and more limited space.In this thesis, the development trend of miniaturization and multi-band of mobile phone antenna is studied and analyzed. Firstly, the basic theory of mobile phone antenna is briefly discussed. Then, the implementation methods for miniaturization, multi-band and broadband of mobile phone antenna are summarized. Finally, two different antennas are proposed for mobile phone application.The size of the first mobile phone antenna is 51 × 15 × 0.8mm3. The measured results show that the antenna gets enough impedance bandwidths to cover GSM850, GSM900, DCS, PCS, UMTS, LTE2300 and LTE2500. For the second mobile phone antenna which only takes a size of 32 X 10 X 0.8 mm3, its’ bandwidths cover LTE700, GSM850, GSM900, DCS, PCS, UMTS, LTE2300 and LTE2500. Two antennas were both manufactured and tested. The experimental results show that they are suitable for mobile phone application.In the end, the work of the full text is summarized, and the deficiencies and areas to be improved are also pointed out.
