| Subject service is the service mode of the university library, which is developing to a deeper level service complying with the development of the new information environment. It takes the literature information resources of the library, the electronic information resources on Internet, the knowledge services which as the its main body, and the requirement of the users, to build a library subject service platform and to provide comprehensive and targeted subject knowledge service to the users in teaching and research field. Being different from traditional service provided by librarians, subject service is to satisfy the needs of the users for teaching and scientific research as the foundation, to change from information providers into scientific participants in research field, to take the user as the service center, and build up new operation mechanism, which takes the library as main body and other departments as the auxiliary resources, to restructure resources, rebuild organizations, redesign systems, and re-develop services. It escorts the teaching and scientific research in colleges and universities, so as to improve the library influence in the field of academic research, and make contribution to the discipline construction in university libraries. In order to meet the new opportunities and challenges better and bring a huge breakthrough in the reformation of university library service, subject service arises at the historic moment, and outlines a beautiful blueprint for the discipline construction in colleges and universities.This article selects the 985 project universities as the research objects, meaning to analyze the present stage and situation of 985 university libraries subject service development. In order to choose the more successful comparison of the typical case analysis, this article explores subject service under development based on the present situation of university library’s achievements and exposed problems. It puts forward some corresponding countermeasures of perfecting our country’s 985 university libraries subject service and advice as well. It is for our country’s construction and development of subject service in university library to provide power. This article uses the "theoretical research+ practice survey+ analysis summary" research train of thought. It can show us from seven aspects upon investigation and analysis of the 985 project universities library subject service.The first part:introduction. It mainly elaborates the research background and significance of this article. It also contained domestic and foreign literature review, research contents and methods, research and innovation points, etc.The second part:general analysis of the concept of subject service. It generally expounds the connotation and characteristics of subject service in university library, then shows the connotation of subject librarian, responsibility, and good theoretical basis for the research of investigation.The third part:investigation and analysis of present situation. It starts an actual investigation focused on four dimensions:the system construction of subject service, subject librarians of human resources, service mode and the service content. Thus the status quo of subject service was analyzed based on the results of the survey to 985 university libraries in our country.The fourth part:the typical case analysis. Based on the above information of 985 university libraries subject service present situation investigation and analysis, this article is able to select and improve the subject services in three universities in order to burst out of the bright spots in the process of analysis and to explore the reference value including Tong Ji university, Peking University and Shanghai Jiao Tong University.The fifth part:exploring problem and the reason analysis. Through the analysis of the investigation to 985 university libraries subject service combined with the successful cases of comparative analysis, it explores the problems presented by the 985 universities in our country and those problems exposed by the discipline under the service based on the status quo is combined with the actual situation specific analysis on causes of the problem.The sixth part:the countermeasure to solve the problem.
