Digital Resources Utilization Of College Libraries In Anhui Province

Service patterns and users’utilizing mode of libraries have significantly changed under the development of Internet technologies, the advent of information era as well as the rapid increase of digital resources, which have a profound influence on libraries. Owing to the advantages such as huge capacity, fast search, convenient look up,less space, well timeliness, readable for more people and effective accessing, digital resources of libraries have achieved popularity among more and more teachers and students. Meanwhile, the digital resources also pushed the development of colleges’ scientific researches and educations. At present, colleges have adjusted libraries’stock structure from traditional resources oriented to focus on both traditional and digital (even more) resources. Many libraries now are paying more and more attention to digital resources by increasing gradually the investment and construction scale of digital resources. However, the utilize rate of digital resources in colleges is not so good because of some problems for example:imbalance of digital resources’ construction, lack of publicity, less understanding of related knowledge and search skills of users, librarians’low comprehensive qualities, which result in lower usage rate and wasting of digital resources. Therefore, libraries can not exert their funtions on construction’s investment of digital resources.In this context, by means of site visits and questionnaire, this paper, on the one hand, takes 3 colleges’libraries in Anhui Province including University of Science and Technology of China, Anhui University and Anhui Agricultural University as study objects to analyze the construction and utilization of digital resources; on the other hand, studied on teachers and students in these three colleges to further investigate their frequency of usage, understanding methods, retrieval ways and evaluation. Comprehensive analysis of the results of the two surveys expresses the problems existed in digital resources utilization in Anhui colleges’libraries and makes reasonable suggestions for the problems in order to provide references for the work of Anhui colleges libraries’ digital resources utilization.Firstly, this paper introduces the research background, significances, status, contents, methods and innovations. Moreover, this paper gives an overview of college library digital resources, and discusses its basic concepts and definitions. The paper will classify digital resources according to different criteria, and describe the influences of using digital resources on the development of universities.Secondly, this paper will investigate the usage of digital resources in Anhui colleges from the perspectives of users and libraries. Taking University of Science and Technology of China, Anhui University and Anhui Agricultural University as an example, the paper will research the distribution and utilization of libraries’ digital resources. Then, based on case study; it will reveal problems existed in the library digital resources utilization of the three colleges.Finally, this paper will propose rational suggestions based on the problems obtained from previously in-depth analysis, such as paying heed to digital resources construction, increasing the publicity, enhacing users’ training of information retrieval competence, changing the concepts of service and improving the overall qualities of librarians, in order to make references for the practice of library digital resources utilization in Anhui colleges and to summary the research content and deficiency of this paper.
