Good sleep is a precondition for healthy body. With the accelerating rhythm of life, more and more sleep problems affect people’s normal life, and has drawn greater attention. Sleep monitoring is an effective means of the evaluation of sleep quality. The use of medical devices for sleep monitoring cost is higher, and cheap as well as family using unrestraint sleep quality detection device has been widely market demand.This paper focuses on designing a sleep quality monitoring device which is in the form of mattress by using basic knowledge of sleep physiology. In accordance with changes of pressure generated by physiological activity during sleep, the respiratory signal and body motion signal are captured via PVDF piezoelectric-film sensor; design hardware circuits which can accomplish signal preprocessing; signals should be processed with A/D converter and be transmitted to the host computer by using C8051F350 microcontroller; design programs with Lab VIEW in the upper computer, including data acquisition and display interface and feature extraction. This system recognizes different sleep stages using the method of pattern recognition with feature extraction data, then designs the optimization method of the sleep stage results, and ultimately achieves the purpose of sleep quality detection.After the actual test of the sleep monitoring system, the system can monitor physiological signals during sleep time, and recognizes different sleep stages by the use of body movement and breathing signal. The evaluation of sleep quality can be in line with reality. And the system basically meets the design requirements.
