The rapid development of information communication technology (ICT) and learner-centered instruction has brought students to an e-learning environment in the 21th century. In the era of e-learning, what types of information services should university libraries provide to meet and satisfy the needs of students? The thesis focus on some general aspects of e-learning services in university libraries in the context of the changing role of libraries. It describes the role of applying e-services appropriately to diversify users’needs and contemporary higher education challenges. E-learning offers new opportunities for an institution as well as benefits for university library users and teachers.In the first part of the thesis, it describes some basic information of the theme. In the second part, it provides a clear relationship between e-learning services, library 2.0 and librarian 2.0 and shows how university libraries are linked to e-learning. It also discusses the change that should make for the maintainability of university libraries. In the third part of the thesis, it describes investigation methods, samples and lists the results. The thesis explores and discusses the types of e-learning services that are supported by Project 985 libraries’websites. In the forth and fifth part the thesis provides practical initiatives on e-learning services by Project 985 libraries, such as scientific achievements, digital learning resources, open access resources, information literacy and study space. Furthermore, it points out that university libraries should provide varies information resources and services to enable users to access relevant information anywhere anytime, as well as provide empower for innovative learning.The thesis provides a useful insight into the role and influence of university libraries, online resources, information commons, and information literacy on e-learning. There is undoubtedly a keenness to use online information resources for research and teaching.
