With the digitization of information technology continues to develop, Telecom IP MAN facing traffic doubled, IPv4 address depletion, bearing demand differentiation, network resiliency, and security issues such as inadequate. Seeking new technologies to solve these problems is very urgent. Virtual Switch technology can just solve insufficient port, poor network reliability and maintenance management cumbersome problem on original IP MAN architecture.This paper starts from the current status quo of IP MAN. According to present various manufacturers introduced different techniques, it chooses two virtual switch technologies, CSS and IRF as an alternative technology. Through research and comparison of the two technologies in all aspects, it designs the most suitable virtual switching system, in order to solve the current problems of IP MAN.The main results are as follows. It studied the working principles of traditional switch and virtual switch technology. This paper analyzes the shortcomings of traditional switches and the need for a virtual switch technology. Start from the actual situation of the current network, elaborate the existence issues of IP MAN architecture and other various aspects, and analyze future network needs. According to the actual situation, we design the two virtual switching systems about CSS and IRF and we test and compare the results of these two different programs, including basic skills, virtualization capabilities and switching capability in the laboratory simulation environment. For the nodes of large capacity and high convergence ratio, we select IRF, which is more excellent, from the perspective of project cost. Then we designed the virtual switch system. This node has run for a year stably and all performances have achieved the desired targets, which means the system is successful and remarkable.
