The global proportion of big data usage has increased dramatically in just about every profession. While, the publishing industry is responding relatively slow to big data and few cases were conducted on the base of mass data. Staring by analyzing the actual needs of the publishing industry provided by mass data,the paper suggests that conventional publication process can no longer work well without the introducing of big data. Knowing the confusion of the publishing industry and actual demand for big date by doing field researches and interviewing editors of different publishing houses, the paper analyzes the profound requirements for big data and what data the publishing industry needs to promote its development. Also, the survey of e-business gives knowledge of the primary date they needs when collecting customer information. Based on this and with the application of big data, the paper proposes a effective process of planning the topic, doing precise market research and analyzing the book market. At the end of the paper, the paper concludes that big data usage offers a great opportunity for the publishing industry to fit in the technical innovation, transferring the traditional ways of thinking, and thus making a fluent transition from the role of bookmakers to data information providers.
