Currently, the intravenous infusion management in most hospitals is still using the old management model, which means patients need to keep an eye on the injection process to find whether it’s completed or not. Patients must call for nurses to change infusion or pull out the needle, otherwise it will cause some bad consequence like blood backflow or needle plug. This will lead to low quality of medical care: patients cannot have a good rest because they may not notice the injection status if falling asleep.In this paper, we talk about researches and developments to set up an infusion monitor system based on state machine. This is a new kind of system which can judge infusion status and then call for nurses to take care of patients automatically. It will be an effectively cost-saving system for hospital IOT building built up based on the ZigBee wireless sensor network. The system is mainly used within hospital wards of the In-patient Department and used for monitoring intravenous infusion allowance in infusion bag or bottleThe main contributions are as follows:1. We set up a wireless sensor network based on ZigBee technology in order to upload sensor data through network and also to receive data by sensor terminal via this network. We develop and build up the hardware of this infusion monitor, so as to transfer infusion weight data and other relevant operating situation to server in time.2. We look for the change rules and special circumstances of infusion data by data collection, integration and analysis in infusion experiment. Through analysis of different types of case to design time automata which enable us to swift working status in accordance with infusion process and to respond to different kinds of special circumstances as well.3. We design and implement an infusion process monitoring system which is divided into middleware, service and client. The system collects infusion monitoring data through wireless sensor network in time to make all kinds of internal server response by automatic machine, provides a platform for users for data search.The Infusion Process Monitoring System built in our work is to solve medical infusion problems talked above in a cost-saving and reasonable way. Medical staff can receive calls and alarm from patients with both voice and visual information in a more timely way under the help of this system. We believe the Infusion Process Monitoring System will make higher quality service for medical care in future.
