The Interaction Between Technology And Society In The Field Of Internet Communication

Nowadays, Internet Communication has become the dominant way of social communication. In China, The 630 million of Internet population indicates that Internet has already played an important role in our daily life. Internet communication including IM, weibo, e-commerce and other types has well developed, especially with the popularization of smart phone and the progress of mobile Internet.This research, based on the theory of Marxism and other academic resources, analyzed the development of Internet communication in the approach of STS, with the three factors of politics, economy and culture. Even though information technology determined the development of Internet communication essentially, the criticism of technological determinism indicates this kind of “determinism” should not be linear but be nonlinear, should not be simple and one-way but be complex and interactional. IT should be regarded as a part of the whole society, influencing each other with the other parts of society including politics, economy and culture.This research found that on one hand, IT gives “Political Man” the right to participate in politics, removes the time and space restrictions of “Economic Man” and releases the individuation demands of “Cultural Man”. On the other hand, “Political Man” regulates the application field of IT. “Economic Man” select the direction of IT development. “Cultural Man” cultivates the new trend of IT.In general, there are two key points in the mechanism of the development of Internet communication. The one point is that IT stimulates the political, economic and cultural demands which was restrained in the past. The other point is that political, economic and cultural factors actually selects the direction of IT development.
