In this paper, the author combining the current situation of the digital publishing and smart city construction mode, puts forward the concept of "smart". What is "smart", that is, with modern technology as the background, combined with the current data resources,with a carrier for content in digital publishing industry to provide content for constructing the smart city of information integration. The concept dates back to the formation of the "smart planet", proposed by IBM in 2008, after that Chinese put forward the "smart city " concept.This article combined the research ofsmart city, digital publishing, digital content,formed the actual idea to build the "smart content". First of all, from the characteristics of current smart city development and the digital publishing content, analysis,and expounds the concrete connotation and characters of smart content. Second, integrate the huge amounts of data, incorporate the professional processing in digital publishing, and strengthen the depth of the content. Then, combined with the current user’s specific preferences and interests to provide personalized services to form smart content.
