As the telecommunications transmission technology continues to develop, synchronous digital hierarchy(SDH) gradually replaced the quasi-synchronous digital hierarchy(PDH). SDH system has large transmission capacity, networking flexibility, distance transmission of higher quality, therefore its widely used in optical fiber transmission system, a communications operator building optical transmission network of mainstream technology. With the expansion of various requirement of telecommunication, the requirement to MAN building is on the way to expand continuously. And as a better way to realize it, SDH is a good choice in the eyes of the network builder.SDH technology for communications transmission network in the planning and construction to provide a wealth of network structure and configuration of applications. This paper on the basis of presentation and analysis of SDH technical characteristics, combined with the design and implementation of city network communications, discusses the detail of SDH technology.This theory firstly discusses the SDH technology, SDH network, network protection methods and clock configuration made in equipments. In particular, I study the network of protection, clock configuration and design of transmission network, Because they can enhance the stability and robustness of the transmission network.Secondly, the paper designs three areas SDH transmission ring network. This paper analyzes the user requirements and current network status, equipment selection, network topology, the circuit time slot, equipment, power systems, equipment clock system configuration of the transmission network are designed in detail.Then the whole design is implemented. Specific examples is introduced about configuration of transmission equipment, measurement for 2M circuits, clock configuration, the specific configuration of the multiplex section protection.Finally, the local tests and system tests for local transmission network, as well as the actual testing of communications equipment are described about System reliability. After the implementation of the project, according to indicators of transport equipment, optical interfaces and electrical interfaces are tested to ensure good operation of the circuit board and the state, in order to prepare for future business cutover. Finally, the design of optical transmission network are summarized and the limitations and development are discussed on the SDH network technology.
