EPON(Ethernet Passive Optical Network) is a new technology of access network, which uses a single fiber access system, to realize an integrated service access including data, voice and video, with cost-efficient. Because of the features of EPON network structure, the advantages of broadband-to-home as well as the dynamic integration of computer network,EPON is widely accepted as the best intermediary that enabling the Integration of the Three Kinds of Networks and also the best solution to solve the problem of the information superhighway’s “last mile” access.The thesis mainly researches the following aspects. The first part explains the principle of EPON, the key technology and its technological superiority. Then it introduces the three applications of EPON in access network. In this part, the application solution of office buildings and neighborhood will be shown; meanwhile, the cost analysis between EPON and traditional access technologies will be compared. Next, a community of China Unicom is set as an example which indicates the analysis of demand design, networking selection and test. This thesis proves that EPON is a mature technology that satisfies the need of current network application. At last, this paper gives a summary and an outlook to the future. |
