As one of the main sources of public`s information, mass media plays a vital role in the popularization of science. For the general audience, the scientific and technological news reports is one of the important channels to get scientific information and develop scientific thinking mode.It has been considered that the readability will exert a great influence on the communication effects. In China, empirical research on the readability of science and technology news is relatively lack.In this article, the author will carry out the study from two aspects, the readability of science and technology news in China and the audience`s attitude towards it.On one side, the author selected the “Science and Technology Daily” “Tech channel of Netease” and “Guokr” as the main object of the research. A certain number of reports from the three media were choosen as the research sample. Subsequently, the author used a news readability formula of Yang Xiaoying to calculate the legibility of these samples. So that we can figure out the status of the legibility of technology news in China. Besides, some influencing factors of readability were extracted for ease of the following research. The results show that the legibility of these reports sample is generally not high, it is relatively difficult for the general audience to comprehend the reported information. And the text legibility is related to the reported theme, the frequent use of difficult words and the notes rate.On the other side, the extracted influencing factors of readability are designed into the questionnaire, in order to find out the audience`s cognitive and attitude towards the science and technology news. According to the results of the questionnaire, the audience has a high demand for the scientific knowledge and information, but the contact rate of scientific and technological news is generally low. The subjects are divided into two categories on the basis of their media contant frequency. Results shows that different audience have different points of view towards the readability of science and technology news, and their demand is not the same. However, most of the audience believes that the readability of science and technology news is poor, which need to be improved.On this basis, the author obtain the status of the readability of our country science and technology news. The main factors that influence the text legibility and the needs of the audience attitudes are discussed. Above all, some suggestions are put forward in order to improve the dissemination effect of cientific news.
