Design And Implementation Of PPPoE Server Based On Linux In Campus Network Authentication Billing System

With the rapid development of computer network, the internet has become an indispensable part of people’s lives. As for schools and enterprises, the demand for information has become greater. According to my work experience and the analysis of network operation mode for residentials, hotels, schools and enterprises, the popular access control technologies are compared in many aspects, then a set of Linux based PPPoE server in the campus network authentication and billing system with its novel design and implementation is proposed. During the design process, currently main authentication technologies including WEB authentication, 802.1X authentication, and PPPoE authentication technology are compared and analyzed. Radius with each of above three authentication technologies would constitute an access authentication billing system and then three different access authentication billing systems are formed. Furthermore, the authentication processes of the three plans and their advantages and disadvantages are analyzed deeply. Among various access modes, PPPoE protocol becomes currently mainstream access mode due to its traditional access mode, accurate billing, and precise traffic control.Furthermore, different from PPPoE based on bras used commonly by the service providers, PPPoE server access mode based on Linux is put forward. The realization of PPPoE server based on Linux system aims to design a multifunctional network resource saving hardware system with independent intellectual property rights. Besides functions of most authentication billing systems in the market, some special network management functions are also deeply studied It includes through special protocol control concurrence connection and bandwidth allocation based on user role, how to effectively check and control the excessive use of network resources such as concurrence of illegal multiusers, illegal gate check, BT abuse, and network virus. An algorithm is designed to realize the traffic balance of multiple links in the server. In addition, the system shall integrate strong functions including network access, firewall, user management, and billing system in the software. There is no hardware system integrating with these functions on the market.The above system is used to solve main problems of campus network of Qingyuan Polytenic including high investment cost of network, incomplete management and control, network exit jam, frequent threat to network security, great difficulty in billing data and operation management control.
