Compared with other type of antennas, the dielectric resonator antenna has the advantage of high radiation efficiency, flexible feeding method and insensitivity to machining errors. In recent years, many attentions have been paid to the research on dielectric resonator antennas. The thesis is mainly about the study on the dielectric resonator antennas and the work concludes the following aspects:1. A MIMO dielectric resonator antenna is proposed. The measured results show that the impedance bandwidth of the antenna is 2.405GHz-2.48 GHz, the antenna gain of port1 when it being excited is 1.83 dBi, the total efficiency of port1 is 44.84%, the antenna gain of port2 when it being excited is 1.33 dBi, the total efficiency of port2 is 64%. The isolation between the two ports is less than-25 dB and this indicates a good isolation between the two ports, the correlation coefficient between two ports is 0.0156.2. A dielectric resonator antenna element with high front-to-back ratio is proposed. Further, a dielectric resonator antenna array consists by the element with high front-to-back ratio and high gain is proposed. In the design of the single element, the theory of parasitic coupling is adopted to have the front-to-back ratio of antenna increased. The measured results show that the antenna element have a front-to-back ratio of 16.1dB, gain of 3dBi at the resonator frequency while the antenna array have a front-to-back ratio of 12.2dB, gain of 11.5dBi at the resonator frequency.3. A dual-band circularly polarized dielectric resonator antenna is proposed. A cup-shaped dielectric resonator is feed by the C-shaped feeding structure in this design, and a cavity is used to increase the antenna gain. The simulated results show that the axial ratio bandwidth is 40 MHz and 50 MHz at 5.8GHz and 6.46 GHz, the peak gain is 6.04 dBi at the lower frequency band while the peak gain is 9.05 dBi at the higher frequency band.4. A wideband dielectric resonator antenna is proposed. By etching a cross-shaped slot inside a rectangular dielectric resonator, the antenna can realize the wideband performance, a square-shaped slot is applied to increase the antenna gain. The simulated results show that the impedance bandwidth of the antenna is 2.2GHz-3.52 GHz and the peak gain of antenna is 3.5dBi.5. An ultra-wideband dielectric resonator antenna is proposed. A U-shaped feeding structure is adopted to excite the half-conical-shaped dielectric resonator. The measured results show that the impedance bandwidth of the antenna is 3.64GHz-10.56 GHz, the relative bandwidth is 97.46%.
