Multi-band Dielectric Resonator Antennas For The 5G Wireless Communication

With the development of wireless communication technology,the fifth generation wireless communication will soon be fully put into use.As an important device in the wireless communication system,the antenna needs to have the specific charateristics such as high efficiency,miniaturization,and multi-band and so on to satisfy the need of high speed,low latency,and low loss for the 5G requirements.Since the introduction of dielectric resonator antenna,it has received extensive attention for the advantages such as no ohmic loss and easy miniaturization.Therefore,the research of multi-band dielectric resonator antenna for the 5G wireless communication will have a significant impact on the development of the new generation of wireless communication.The research of this article can be divided as following:(1)Design of dual-band dielectric resonator antenna and its array for 5G mobile communication is proposed.Firstly,based on the working mode of the rectangular dielectric resonator(fundamental modeTEx?11 and higher order modeTEx?13),the size of the radiator is obtained according to the size calculating formulas of the dual-band rectangular dielectric resonator antenna.Subsequently,a slot-fed dual-band dielectric resonator antenna is designed.Also it is fabricated and tested,and the measured reflection coefficient bandwidth(S11<-10 d B)of the antenna is 19.9%(3.16-3.86 GHz)and 18.1%(4.16-4.99 GHz),which shows good agreement with the simulation results.The proposed DRA are approximately directional at both operation frequency bands.The gain of the antenna is up to 7.88d Bi,and the radiation efficiency is up to 83.3%.Then,the traditional Wilkinson power divider is employed in design the binary array antenna.Also,the fabrication and measurement are carried out.The measured reflection coefficient bandwidth(S11<-10 d B)of the antenna is 23.0%(3.23-4.07 GHz)and 13.6%(4.51-5.17 GHz),respectively.And the gain is increased by 2-3d Bi compared to the single antenna.(2)Design of miniaturized multi-band dielectric resonator antennas used in 5G,WLAN and Wi MAX is proposed.A rectangular dielectric resonator with a high dielectric constant can effectively reduces the size of the antenna.Also the dielectric block is embedded into the dielectric substrate to reduces the overall height of the antenna.Finally,an embedded multi-band dielectric resonator antenna is designed.The antenna can not only cover the two frequency bands 3.3-3.6 GHz and 4.8-5.0 GHz,but also work at 5.36GHz whose bandwidth is relatively narrow.The proposed DRA is approximately omnidirectional at three operation frequency bands.The simulated gain can be up to 3.63d Bi,and the radiation efficiency of the antenna reaches more than87%.In order to further miniaturize the antenna and widen the bandwidth of the third frequency band,the CPW feed structure is introduced to replace the microstrip feed structure,and a rectangular slotted design is made on the ground.The overall size of the antenna is reduced to the previous antenna 53.6%.The antenna is manufactured and tested.The measured reflection coefficient bandwidth(S11<-10 d B)of the antenna is29.0%(3.24-4.34 GHz),15.1%(4.54-5.28 GHz),and 6.2%(5.64-6.00 GHz),respectively.Its working frequency bands can not only cover the Sub-6 GHz frequency bands of 5G mobile communications,but also cover the communication frequency bands of WLAN/Wi MAX.
