With the development of the wireless communication system,the requirements for the antennas in RF system front end,like miniaturization,high gain,wideband,become more and more high.For recent decades,dielectric resonator antenna has called broad attentions as a popular radiating element for its wide band,low loss and ease of excitation.However,there are some disparities between real requirements and existing antennas at the aspects like physics size and electric performance.For the existence issues of large size and low gain,the compact and high gain dielectric resonator antennas are studied in this paper,in the first,the design scheme of broad band compact dielectric resonator antenna is proposed and validated by physical verification.Then the dielectric resonator antenna with high gain directional radiation is simulated and analyzed,and the antenna used as the element of a two elements antenna array.Finally their operation characteristics are discussed.The author's major contributions are as follows:1.A compact cylindrical column wideband dielectric resonator antenna with a leaned cut on the top of the dielectric resonator is presented.The antenna is excited by a coaxial feed monopole and mounted on a circular substrate,a vertical electric monopole locates at the center of the DR.The gain is increased in a small range by the deformed ground plane.The air gap between the DR and the monopole plays an important role in shifting the resonant frequency.With the increase of the monopole length in a small range,the operation frequency turns to low frequency band.And with the decrease of the height of the DRA,the resonant frequency comes to middle frequency.It's observed that the proposed configuration reduces the DRA volume compared with conventional cylindrical DRA.2.A novel high gain dielectric resonator?DR?antenna?DRA?with high directionality is investigated.The proposed antenna consists of two DR modules mounted on the center of the metal ground plane and it is excited by a probe.The smaller DR works as a director.And there are two rows of metal posts on the side of the ground plane,paralleling with the two DR,to guide the propagation of the electromagnetic wave and form a characteristic of broadside radiation pattern.The metal patch wrapping on the back side of the main DR can suppress the backward radiation.In the progress of antenna design,there are only two DRs with broad matching bandwidth at first,and the bandwidth of radiation pattern is narrow.The main mode excited in the bigger DR isTM01?.Then some short metal posts are added to restrict the distribution of the electric field,and to make the electromagnetic energy radiate to the desired direction.It is effective to broaden the radiation bandwidth and has little impact on impedance bandwidth.After a set of optimizations,we get the proposed antenna.Afterwards,this antenna is used as elements for arraying,and the characteristics of the array are analyzed.
