With the development of broadband wireless communication, the broadband microwave amplifier module become more important, which has been a core of the system. The performance of the communication system mainly depends on the microwave modules. Microwave broadband amplifier module incorporates some of the key circuits in the system, such as the upper/down converter, low noise amplifier, filter, power divider or coupler, switch, phase shifter, and so on. Thus, it greatly improved the integration of the system, while reducing the volume of the device, making the system design to be more compacted. This meets the needs of modern communication applications.For a multi-functional broadband microwave amplification needs in a research project, the paper completed the design and implementation work of a broadband amplifier module. Firstly,this paper analyzes the various broadband amplification technology, micro-strip switch, power division and amplitude equalizer technology. Then the paper design a reasonable implement scheme. Finally, a broadband microwave amplifier module is developed successfully, using MMIC chips and hybrid integrated circuit processing technology.In this paper, a broadband microwave amplifier module is accomplished within the working band of 2GHz to 8GHz. Testing results show that the gain is more than 30 dB, the noise figure is less than 3.5dB, the VSWR is less than 2, the gain flatness is less than ±2dB, the channel consistency is less than ±1dB, the switch isolation is greater than 50 dB. All the targets are achieved well with a certain margin.The main research process of this paper shows as follow. Firstly, the paper describes the design theories and analysis of broadband amplifier, broadband switch, broadband splitter and broadband equalizer. Then the circuit models is established and simulated with professional software to determine the detailed design parameters. MMIC chips are selected to use and the design of match circuit is finished for broadband amplifier. Using multi-stage PIN diodes, the design of broadband switch is achieved. Broadband power divider is designed with multi-stage Wilkinson structure. Then, all circuits are cascaded according to the module’s simulation and optimization. And the layout and structure of the module are completed. Finally, with micro-assembly technology, the microwave amplifier module is achieved.In this paper, a detailed debugging and test process is described, including the test methods and procedures. The measured data is compared with the simulation results. Experiences through the design and debugging methods are summarized. At last, the paper make a discuss the future of broadband microwave amplifier module.
