As an efficient automatic identification and data collection technology, RFID technology is developing rapidly in recent years. With the expansion of the application of RFID technology, all kinds of RFID products are emerging in the world. And the UHF RFID reader has the advantages of fast reading and writing speed, long reading distance and readable of multi labels, which makes is suitable for many kinds of applications, therefore, the research of UHF RFID technology has become the priority among priorities. However, the overall development of China’s RFID industry is relatively backward in the world advanced level, especially in the research of UHF band. Therefore, designing a UHF RFID reader with independent intellectual property rights will promote the RFID technology in China in some degree.The main content of this paper is to use the FPGA to design and implement the digital baseband system of UHF RFID reader which is in accordance with the ISO/IEC 18000-6C protocol. To achieve this goal, the main work of this paper is as follows:Firstly, in this paper, the development course and trend of current RFID technology are introduced briefly. Then the current UHF protocols are described and the ISO/IEC 18000-6C protocol is analyzed in detail, from the encoding and decoding technology, modulation and demodulation technology of the physical layer, to the reader commands and status of tag in the tag-identification layer, then to the principle of all kinds of anti-collision algorithms.Secondly, after analyzing the overall architecture of the reader system, we determine the design technical indicators of it. Then we described the design process of the digital baseband system, including the design of transmission link, receiving data path and the control module. Then.in the fourth chapter, we introduce the realization of each module circuit, and the function of each module is verified by simulation. Then the digital baseband system of UHF RFID reader is implemented on the FPGA.Finally, we accomplish practical test for the entire digital baseband system. After comparing the test result with the simulation result, the function of the whole baseband system and each module is verified.
